I am a public citizen active with a group interested in restoring a dying bayou in north Florida. I have a question. What are the little islands that form in a tidal bayou due to buidup of sediments and sand technically called? These islands grow in size, choking off the natural flow and flushing within the bayou. Wire grasses eventually take root and you can't touch them by law per the FDEP. Sorry, if this is the wrong forum for this question.

I believe that this kind of growth is called a mangrove. I found quite a bit of information in the following site. Just outline it and then copy and past into the url box. http://web.ask.com/redir?bpg=http%3a%2f%2fweb.ask.com%2fweb%3fq%3dMangrove%2bSwamps%26o%3d0%26page%3d1&q=Mangrove+Swamps&u=http%3a%2f%2ftm.wc.ask.com%2fr%3ft%3dan%26s%3da%26uid%3d04AF4A631073D97F3%26sid%3d19F95005F5BF759F3%26qid%3d68843AC082970749A08A3750F801AF42%26io%3d1%26sv%3dza5cb0de8%26ask%3dMangrove%2bSwamps%26uip%3d453e44fe%26en%3dte%26eo%3d-100%26pt%3dEPA%2b%253e%2bWetlands%2b%253e%2bWetland%2bTypes%2b%253e%2bMangrove%2bSwamps%26ac%3d24%26qs%3d6%26pg%3d1%26ep%3d1%26te_par%3d102%26u%3dhttp%3a%2f%2fwww.epa.gov%2fowow%2fwetlands%2ftypes%2fmangrove.html&s=a&bu=http%3a%2f%2fwww.epa.gov%2fowow%2fwetlands%2ftypes%2fmangrove.html
