"Top Hydrologists from India, Middle East"
Hello. Could someone please give me their opinions on the top hydrology companies in India and the Middle East. I currently have a project coming up that involves work in the desert testing wells used by nomadic people and would like to get some opinions on where to go. We're interested in using rainwater harvesting technology- along the lines of what has been done in Rajasthan- but are also interested in firms from the Middle East that might have done similar work. I didn't post this on the job offers board since I'd like to get opinions on the best organizations.

Hi,

I am a staff member at King abdulaziz University - Water research center - Jeddah - Saudi Arabia.

We do have wells belonging to nomadic people in the desert.

Let me know if you would like to know more.

Good luck.

Khaled

I am a hydrogeologist with 25+ years of experience in the U.S., Middle East, Asia, and Mexico, including in the Sonoran Desert, Libyan/Egyptian Desert, Gaza/West Bank, and U.S. drylands. Desert testing of wells in complicated for several reasons - well completion information, hydrogeologic stratigraphy, and historical water levels, production, and water quality are generally unknown, making it challenging to plan a comprehensive testing program and to interpret test results. In addition, nomadic desert sites are often remote from power sources, and perhaps quite hot, contributing to logistical challenges. These can be overcome by innovation. I have done such innovative work to develop sustainable water-supplies for shrimp farms and Salicornia fields for Coca Cola and Armor Foods in Mexico's coastal desert in Sonora along the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California), and for the World Bank at Seawater Farms Eritrea in the Eritrean coastal desert along the Red Sea. If you have a coastal component, you might consider using tidal correlations with observation well responses, as is commonly done in Hawaii. Please advise. I am currently working in Iraq to restore Iraqi oil for Halliburton/KBR under a USACE contract.

I have seen your e-mail message and would like to inform that we have done few research activities on rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge in Thar desert part of India. I have prepared a brouchure on the process developed and tested at field site. It is essentially harvesting the surplus storm runoff during the good monsoon years and store it in groundwater through artificial recharge. The sotrge of fresh water thus created shall be utilized for drinking during monsoon failure years.

Our Institute namely the National Geophysical Research Institute located at Hyderabad, India is one of premierResearch Institution in Earth Sciences.

If you need for information about our work in desert areas, please feel free to contact us.

iam working in the high altitudte (>3000 meters) cold mountain(tempratures in winters drop to -37*C) deserts of Ladakh himalayas in India for the last seven years.

We have been able to develop a sustainable water solution to provide drinking water to the people throughout the year.

Prior to our project the only source of water was based on taping of surface water resource only. this was susceptable to seasonal fluctuations that is flooding due to melting of snow in summers
(june -august and freezing of water in winters (december to Febuary).

In the absence of rainfall the only source which could be used on sustaianble basis was groundwater.

We have developed a very simple and scientific method based on hydrogeological data and studies to explore and develop groundwater resources.
and i would like to inform you that we have been able to drill and devlop groundwater resources in almost in the entire northeastern part of Ladkh Hiamlayas and proving safe drinking water to the people some of our projects are marvellous works as far as the hydrogeological studies.
to list a few
1. Drill the heighest borewell (15500 feet above mean sea level) at North polu at Khardunla mountain range in Ladakh himalaya
2. Drill the coldest borewell (-35*-40*) at snout of Sciachen Glacier.
3. Drill the heighest artisian condition at an altitude of .11000 feet in Leh Ladakh
4. Besides providing safe drinking water to the people of ladakh.
