"Fresh groundwater harvesting?"
Hiya groundwater pals,

There are stories told about pumping deeper saline groundwater and concentrating shallower fresh water into the cones of depression cause by the deeper saltwater pumping. CH has been telling these stories.

I haven't seen or know of any evidence for this - do you?

Thanks, Barney, en Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico

I would like to invite attention to another form of ground water harvesting comprising construction of subsurface impermeable material barriers in the beds of ephemeral (seasonal) streams to harvest the ground water leaving as base flow and make it available to wells upstream of the barrier for a longer period.
I have described this type of ground water harvesting with case histories in my book " Water Harvesting and Sustainable Suply in India', published jointly by Center for Environment Education,Ahmedabad (www.cee.org) and by rawat publications, Delhi (info@rawatbooks.com)

We call it "double pumping" in the business. If you need one built, contact me. They are somewhat expensive.

Regarding the impermeable barriers in stream channels, we do this with concrete grout. Pretty simple really. Been around for at least 30 years.
