"Help locating groundwater in Iraq"
I am a US Army civilian working in Iraq to assist in developing water resources for the coalition bases around Iraq. We have several locations that would like to use groundwater supply, but are having difficulty locating information on groundwater resources. Would be very grateful for any assistance from the forum.

I am a specialist in carbonate aquifer hydrogeology. Perhaps I might be of help in the Iraq limestone terranes. I am professor of Geology/Hydrogeology and a graduate faculty member at Eastern Kentucky University and The University of Kentucky. My consulting clients include the Dept. of Defense, ALCOA, Merck & Co., Pfizer, General Electric and many others. I have worked in carbonates ranging from Cambrian through Miocene, and in temperate and tropical settings. You can see my web-page at gwtrace.com. I would be pleased to assist if I can.

Sir,
I am Major Brian Bresnahan, an officer with the 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines in Iraq. We are about 15K west of Fallujah and are starting to assist the villages in our area with reconstruction, starting with water resources. My background is actually agronomy, but being from Nebraska, I have an understanding of ground water. I have questions concerning the availability of your organization for well drilling, availability of ground water in the area, etc.
Could you please contact me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Byron,
I am a groundwater hydrologist with 30 years experience, ex-USGS hydrologist, and consultant to the ADB, USAID, and World Bank. I'm enroute to Iraq from San Francisco as a Senior Environmental Specialist, ETA around October 11, 2003. Do you have any soil surveys, geological surveys, topographic maps, subsurface data, vegetative and channel information? Are there deep-rooted perennial trees in low-lying areas or old stream channels? Are there any existing wells? How can I help?

Dear Bryton
I am a Hydrogeologist who worked in Iraq for 26 years on ground water studies and investigations. I have written many final reports on this subject. The last one was “The Hydrogeology and Estimations of ground water recourses of Iraq”. This report is then converted to a GIS project containing a database of more than 500 boreholes, most of which I supervised the drilling and testing, during my work with SwedPower.

I believe I replied to this email in September from my office usine IE 6. The reply was not accepted. In fact, I tried several times since with the same result. This is a test to determine if using AOL as a gateway will result in an accepted post.

Seems aol is more acceptable. In any event my original reply was that our firm has nearly 30 years experience in nearly every corner of the planet on ground water exploration projects. Much of the work was conducted for U.S. AID and the OFDA. Some was done for private companies. Our website www.agwconsultants.com is the largest website on the internet dedicated to all methods of ground water exploration. It is proprietary and if interested contact me directly for username and password. One technology is mentioned but not described it is so new.

For my personal resume find it on www.waterbank.com

Sirs,

I wonder if anyone could point me to a source for existing water quality for Southern Iraq, i.e.:

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
Anticipated depth of wells to reach ground water
Are WHO standards for Rx acceptable?

Thanks in advance.

Jim
