"Management of Urban Water Supply Schemes"
International Short Term Course on Management of Urban Water Supply Schemes, 10th - 21st JANUARY, 2005, being organised jointly by IIT Roorkee and NIH, INDIA.

Dear Friends,

Urban water supply schemes are essential elements of infrastructure and play an important role in the social well-being of any country. Most existing water supply schemes in various cities were designed and installed decades earlier and are now highly inadequate to cater for the increased population. The problem gets further aggravated because of rapid urbanization and reduction in water carrying capacity of such schemes due to aging and poor maintenance. There are frequent complaints of not receiving water for sufficient time at adequate pressure and of getting contaminated water. Thus, there is need of effective planning, operation, maintenance, and capacity augmentation of existing water supply schemes.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee (India) is engaged in the dissemination of knowledge in the technological advances in various areas of engineering, and is well recognized at national and international level. IIT Roorkee has a unique and distinct advantage of having various departments/ centres of excellence like Civil Engineering, Water Resources Development Training Centre (WRDTC) and Dept. of Hydrology.

National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) Roorkee is the premier research institute of India in the field of hydrology. The Institute is well equipped to carry out computer, laboratory & field oriented studies and has a team of well qualified & trained scientists with excellent academic background.

I have a great pleasure in sending you the information brochure of the International Short-term Course on “Management of Urban Water Supply Schemes” to be organized during 10th to 21st January, 2005 by WRDTC jointly with NIH at the Centre of Continuing Education, IIT Roorkee. This short-term course will focus on computer based design and analysis of urban water supply schemes. It will focus on various issues like sustainable sources of water supply, water quality, social and economical aspects, etc. Latest techniques of mechanical, hydraulic and water quality reliability assessment will be taught. The target audience is the field engineers, planners, managers, and teachers of technical institutions.

The Last date for nominations in this course is 30th Nov., 2004.

Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
