"Ph.D. Research Assistantships in Lattice Boltzmann Methods"
The Earth Sciences Department at Florida International University has positions for Ph.D. students in the broad disciplines of hydrogeology and soil physics.

Research areas focus on applications of lattice Boltzmann models to a wide range of problems including:

•Solute transport (especially linking parameters in advanced FADE and CTRW models to porous medium geometry)
•Ground water and solute transport modeling in karstic and fractured domains
•Seawater intrusion and density driven flows
•Aquifer storage and recovery
•Multiphase fluid migration in porous and fractured media
•Surface water flow and solute transport in the Everglades
•Liquid-vapor interface behavior in porous materials under zero- and micro-gravity conditions for plant growth in space
•Gas phase diffusion in porous media
•Fractals and percolation theory

More traditional proposed research topics can be considered. FIU requires verbal quantitative GRE >1120 for Ph.D. students. TOEFL required (>550 or >230 computerized) for non-native English speakers. Strong quantitative and computer skills required. Competitive stipend. Contact Dr. Mike Sukop at sukopm@fiu.edu for further information.

Dear Mr Sukop,

I am a civil engineer with a Master's degree in Environmental pollution control and for the past two years, I work for an engineering consultancy in the hydraulic modelling team.

The positions you offer sound very interesting and I would greatly appreciate if you can send me extended information on the availability of these Ph.D. positions, the requirements to enter such a course and the expenses involved.

Should you require further information on my academic or work history, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you

Yours sincerely

Dimitra Korontzi

Dear Sir,
I am an MSc holder in Hydrogeology working with the public research Institution in Ghana. I have been working as a hydrogeolist for over 10 yrs and I am interested in taking up a PhD programme in a related field.
I have read your advertised PhD programmes with a lot of interest. My initial inquiry is to find out if opportunities are still available for this year, 2004. My interests are particularly with the first four programmes.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Anthony A. Duah.
