"Big buisness to destroy our aquifers?"
I live in Amarillo, Tx where we have a little problem. A few of the area's counties have granted a permit to a man with the name of T Boone Pickens to drill for water and sell it for the profit of himself and his investors. I really don't know how in the heck this man got this permit in the first place. In this portion of the Ogallala Aquifer, there are places where the water table has sank over fifty feet and others have completely dried up. Our local governments are now neglecting our limited supply of groundwater even more than before. Could someone please tell me how any of this is happening? Could I be over reacting?

And why not sell it. Boone has most of his land leased in Roberts county where there are 16 ranchers and not much use for water. Not using it is sort of like not pumping oil

Why is Pickens any different than Amarillo that spent $25 million several years ago to buy ranchland near Amarillo for its water that they won't need for 25 years but when they do, they will mine the bejesus out of the non-replenishable Ogalalla and sell the water to their ratepayers.

Then there is the Canadian River Authority that is doing the same thing that Pickens asnd Amarillo are doing. They have vast land holdings for the water. They will pump the water out and put it into the Candian River to improve the quality so someone downstream can take it out and use it for some beneficial purpose that may earn them a buck.

In fact, Pickens used the same application process for his permits that the other entities use. It has nothing to do with business it has to do with fulfilling needs.

Have a nice day.

Michigan is having the issue that you describe. You might want to try looking up some general searches in Michigan .
